Meet our new talent Dan Pearce

At Columns, we are always excited to welcome new team members, as they bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. This time, we had the pleasure of interviewing our new Designer, Dan Pearce.

With a drive to learn and a thirst for diverse experiences, we’re thrilled to have Dan on board and look forward to seeing the amazing work he will do as part of our growing design team!

Welcome to Columns!
Tell us about your experience.

From a young age, my creativity was obvious, and I began exploring different mediums of design. Soon my enthusiasm for creating extended to various other forms of expression, with a particular focus on Graphic Design.

My drive to learn, craft, develop and experiment has provided me with a broad range of projects and working environments, practising my craft in as many formats as possible, branching from print, and digital through to exhibition and experiential.

I believe that experiencing new cultures plays a large part in my expression. I've been fortunate enough to study in the UK, Shanghai, and Berlin, providing me with a wealth of life stories and global creative insight.

What attracted you to your role at Columns? Any highlights so far?

For me, it was growth. The ability to work under some very talented individuals, with an incredible amount of experience throughout, I could only imagine the possibilities and how much I'd be able to learn. Having an amazing client roster, and a deep desire for creativity, for me, the choice was obvious.

In my short time with Columns, I have worked across a diverse range of client projects, getting invaluable insights into the Columns team dynamics, whilst gaining knowledge that any young designer would dream of!

Which creatives would make your Columns fantasy team – and why?

This is a tough one! But here are four that come to mind.

Katsushika Hokusai – An artist before his time, his method is fascinating and his perspective incredible. One of my favourite artists showcasing his view on culture, nature, and history in Japan.

Dieter Rams – Simplicity and functionality, what is not to love?

Kate Bush – A masterclass on being true to yourself and creating what you love, Bush resonated with me from a young age, for being unapologetically whacky.

Wu-Tang Clan – They possess an honesty and loyalty to the soul that always felt very familiar. Nothing is more inspirational than a group following their dreams, never giving up despite adversity and staying true to their passion.

Aside from your current Columns briefs, what would be your dream project?

It would have to be culture-based, an exhibition or experiential piece related to subculture, experience or artistry that would really bring people together, and help bridge the gaps in our society. I have a great appreciation for the world I grew up around, and would love to pay homage to the sights, sounds and creativity that have inspired me over the years.

What superpower do you contribute to the team?

I'd like to think my resilience has really got me here today. I have always been very driven from a young age, and this provided a sense of can-do attitude towards any challenge I approached.

Where in London do you go to get inspired?

I look to get inspiration from anywhere, especially in London. The city is bursting with creativity and enthusiasm from people of all backgrounds which makes it a special place. A simple lunch to conversations on the tube can be enlightening, and I feel that these different perspectives offer us insight into the world for which are designing for.
