Any Modernist architecture fans out there?â â Our creative director Rick shares his thoughts on the modernist architecture of Rotterdam. â â âA classic example of Dutch functionalism, the Sonneveld House was designed in the 1930âs by the Architects Brinkman and Van Der Vlugt. It was painstakingly restored to itâs original condition and opened to the public in 2001. I first went there a year later while visiting the NAI in Rotterdam at a time when I was switching onto a broader world world of design beyond the typography and graphics Iâd recently studied. The place gives a real glimpse into how modernist design and ideals can shape the environments we live in and the lifestyles we lead.â It felt like standing in an important piece of history, one that fulfilled a real purpose for those that lived in it.â

How can a sustainable fashion brand develop its identity to create more stand out while staying true to its roots?â â This is the challenge we were given by Second Cashmere, an independent brand who restore and resell high-quality second-hand cashmere products. Their founder came to us to develop a new brand story to distinguish the company from the competition and establish them a leader in an emerging and growing category.â â The task for creative was twofold â to build on the existing style and assets to help them work harder, and to create a set of guidelines to establish some rules and consistency for their application.â â We developed a logo that retained an existing visual signature and introduced the company name to help build greater brand recognition and memorability. We expanded the colour palette for flexibility and to express the brandâs personality, particularly for gaining attention across social channels. Here are the results! Using retro to pave the way for new! â The campaign that generated ÂŁ500k in income AND won an award.....â â When you launch your first new product in a decade, you want to make some noise. Which is exactly why AXA, the global insurance giant, asked us to help promote their new Management Liability Policy to business customers. â â To illustrate the need that businesses need to move forward, we used images of out-dated office technology across a broad range of sales materials. These included a targeted digital campaign, a dedicated YouTube channel and a launch at the Savoy (with retro sweets and toys thrown in). The results were astonishing: AXA quickly became the market leader in business insurance, with over 500 policies written in the first months after launch â generating ÂŁ500k in income. So, when we were asked to set a brief for a group of third-year media design students from Zwolle University, we wanted to get them thinking about something that runs through all these changes. One of the most iconic names in hospitality, @thesavoylondon wanted to create a board game that would add a playful dimension to guestsâ stays and give them something uniquely Savoy to take away with them. â â After working with The Savoy for many years, we thought we had seen it all, being asked to develop a board game was something the team were really excited about, it gave us the opportunity to apply our thinking to something that would bring the brand to life in a very different way. â â We created a not-quite-general knowledge game called the Savoy River of Trivia that takes players on a journey along the River Thames, answering questions as they go. Itâs a fun, intriguing gaming experience thatâs proved a big hit with guests and their friends and families. We live in a world of instant communication, and whether itâs email or Tik Tok, online shopping or sharing files via Dropbox, our social, business, and commercial lives are intertwined with digital tools. So where does that leave print?â â One thing we DO know is that print ISN'T dead! Yes, digital allows us to consume design and information quickly and efficiently however nothing can replace the tactile experience of holding a beautifully printed catalogue, invitation or document.â â Will Howard, our Head of Production and in-house printing guru, believes that print is most valuable at two ends of the spectrum: short-life print and high-end print. â â Short-life print, things like direct mailers, catalogues and leaflets are still incredibly valid, as the internet is great for searching for something specific, but being shown a curated selection of products you werenât aware of is very useful. â â Then thereâs high-end print. If you had an invitation for tea with the Queen, itâs something you might want to keep forever â the sense of occasion simply canât be reflected in an email. â â So, we wonât be putting away our paper samples just quite yet! Two weeks away from the Studio allowed us time to reset, recharge and (alongside developing an addiction to the darts) reflect on the year ahead. Weâve all no doubt set some personal resolutions for 2022 and not wanting to suffer from the dreaded FOMO weâve also reminded ourselves to set a few creative resolutions too! So here you have it, Columns 5 resolutions for 2022: 1. Continue to diversify our client base, finding new and exciting challenges to take us out of our comfort zone and push our expertise in new ways to partner with existing and new clients. 2. Get out more, away from the screen, and make sure we get a hefty dose of inspiration through the year. What's in a font? Well. Quite a lot actually! â â You might think that the exact fonts you choose for your project donât matter, as long as the audience can read and understand the information. But type does more for a design than simply share the written message. Sometimes all you need is a little refresh.â â Following a respectful restoration and a reimagined menu, we worked with @simpsons1828 to introduce their brand to a new generation and re-establish their reputation as an essential London food destination.â â Drawing inspiration from the restaurantâs interiors, we created an identity that married the classic and the contemporary, never losing that sense of authenticity. We struck a balance between the theatrical flourishes Simpsonâs is famous for (for example the iconic chess pieces) and clean, modern lines.â â A bespoke typeface was developed which took itâs design DNA from the original exterior of the building and gave the brand a unique distinctive asset.
